Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
As a Registered Manager, I am responsible for the overall management of the service, ensuring high-quality, person-centred care is delivered in line with CQC regulations and company policies. My day-to-day role includes leading and supporting staff, monitoring care standards, managing safeguarding concerns, conducting audits, overseeing care plans and risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. I also work closely with service users, families, and healthcare professionals to promote positive outcomes and continuously improve the quality of care provided.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

3/5
I have enjoyed the programme overall, although at times it has been challenging. Completing a Level 5 qualification while working full-time as a Registered Manager and raising young children has required significant commitment and time management. Additionally, the qualification changed providers at the beginning of the programme, and having a different tutor towards the end, with a very different working style, created some anxiety and uncertainty at times. Despite these challenges, I have gained valuable knowledge and skills that have supported my professional development and practice as a manager.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

4/5
Yes, I have learnt a range of new skills and further developed existing ones throughout the programme. I have gained a better understanding of different leadership styles and how to adapt my approach to meet the needs of different situations and individuals. I have strengthened my knowledge of relevant legislation, CQC requirements, and care standards, enabling me to make informed decisions and maintain compliance within the service. I have also developed my understanding of communication models, which has improved my ability to communicate effectively with staff, service users, families, and professionals. In addition, I have improved my ability to manage challenging situations, solve problems, and understand the legal implications of decisions made within my role as a Registered Manager.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

3/5
The programme has been well organised at times, particularly when there was consistency in support and a clear routine in place. However, there have also been periods where the programme could have been managed more effectively. The change of tutors was handled very poorly, with little explanation provided as to why the change was happening, and the transition took place very quickly. This created uncertainty and anxiety, particularly as the new tutor has a different approach and working style. While I appreciate that changes can be necessary, better communication and a more structured handover would have made the process smoother. Despite these challenges, there have been periods where the programme has run well and provided good support for my learning and development.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

4/5
Lancashire County Council (LCC) has supported me throughout this apprenticeship, and I am very grateful for the time, encouragement, and financial investment they have made in my development. I have generally been given the opportunity to complete my off-the-job learning hours, which has helped me progress through the programme alongside my role as a Registered Manager.
However, there have been occasions when operational demands and requests from senior managers have interrupted the time allocated for apprenticeship work. While I understand that the needs of the service must sometimes take priority, this can make it challenging to fully utilise the protected learning time available. Overall, I feel well supported by my employer and appreciate their commitment to my professional development.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

3/5
As my current tutor is relatively new to me, it is difficult to fully assess the level of support provided at this stage. However, the support I have received so far has been positive, and my tutor has been available to offer guidance when needed. The recent change in tutor means that we are still establishing a working relationship and adapting to different ways of working. I feel that I will be better placed to evaluate the level of support once I have worked with my tutor for a longer period of time.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

4/5
I feel that the qualification has helped me to perform better in my role by increasing my knowledge, confidence, and understanding of leadership and management within the care sector. It has strengthened my understanding of legislation, CQC requirements, safeguarding, communication, and person-centred care, allowing me to make more informed decisions and lead my team more effectively. The programme has also encouraged me to reflect on my own practice, consider different approaches to leadership, and develop strategies for managing challenging situations. As a result, I feel better equipped to ensure high standards of care and support positive outcomes for both staff and service users.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
