Audit & Assurance Review

As an analyst, you mostly work on the lower risk side of Audit. Work varies depending on the stage of the audit. On a typical day in planning stage you might be conducting risk assessments on account balances such as cash or creditors. During a testing phase of an audit you a day to day would look like testing these accounts, looking for errors or misstatements. This often involves client calls to help understand different balances.

You are expected to take responsibility for the work that you sign off. However, if you do not feel confident, you can always ask more experienced members of the team for help.

Technical skills such as excel, have improved drastically to becoming advanced. You are also taught AI skills just as the best prompts to use, or how we can implement it better within our work. Communication skills drastically improved from how they were prior to the placement. And you study towards the ACA qualification, undertaking the first two exams. Meaning you gain real accounting skills.

You are assigned a people leader, who is always available if you have any questions or require support. Along with this anyone in the office is always ready to give a hand with any problems you may face.

Company culture was stressful at times through busier periods, however they made an effort to organise social events to help overcome that stress and become more of a unit. Everyone is very friendly and people often go for drinks on a thursday after work to socialise outside of the office environment.

I enjoyed my placement very much, gaining real life work experience in a field that was completley different to my degree (Geography). Meeting new people all the time, being given real responsibility communicating with clients ect. I came out of the placement with a lot of confidence going into my final year at uni.
