Industrial Placement Review

As an Audit Industrial Placement at Deloitte, I supported external audit engagements by assisting in the testing and evaluation of financial statement balances, transactions, and internal controls for a range of clients across different industries. Based on my office i specialised in oil and gas and logisitics. On a day-to-day basis, I reviewed financial records and supporting documentation, performed substantive testing, analysed data using Excel and Deloitte audit software, and documented audit procedures in line with Deloitte's methodology. I regularly liaised with client finance teams to obtain information, resolve queries, and ensure audit evidence was complete and accurate. Working closely with senior analysts, assistant managers, and partners, I contributed to delivering high-quality audits while developing a strong understanding of financial reporting standards, risk assessment, and professional communication in a fast-paced client-facing environment.

As an Audit Industrial Placement at Deloitte, I was entrusted with increasing levels of responsibility as my technical knowledge, confidence, and experience developed throughout the placement. Initially working under close supervision, I gradually took ownership of a range of audit testing areas and became responsible for planning and executing procedures independently, while ensuring work was completed accurately and on time. Responsibilities included, investigating variances, requesting supporting documentation from client personnel and analysing and structuring the data in line with Deloitte ways of working. This experience strengthened my analytical, communication, and organisational skills while providing valuable exposure to the responsibilities of a graduate auditor.

I strengthened my analytical and problem-solving abilities through testing financial statement balances, investigating variances, and assessing audit evidence. Working closely with clients and colleagues helped me develop strong communication and stakeholder management skills, enabling me to confidently discuss audit queries and present findings.
