Private Client Services Summer Vacation Scheme Review

A role in PCS at Deloitte is working on both compliance and advisory tasks for individuals tax affairs. Day to day work includes calculating clients tax liability, producing their returns, and advising on decisions which may have tax implications e.g. living abroad, selling assets etc.

I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement - this really helped my learning curve as I was doing new tasks for different clients on a daily basis, including attending client meetings.

I've learnt a lot of new skills through the experience, both soft skills and technical skills. Management of workload and communication to seniors were particularly important soft skills as these ensured you could take on work to support others as much as possible, but without overdoing it. Technical skills included lots of tax specific software.

I received lots of support and guidance through my internship. I had a buddy who I could reach out to for any day-to-day questions on tasks, as well as people leader who supported with more general matters regarding the internship. I had weekly catch-up meetings with my people leader to make sure I was on the right path to make the internship successful. Also, everyone at the desk was really supportive and always happy to help and answer questions.

The company culture and general atmosphere was one of the best aspects of my experience. Everyone in the office was really welcoming from day one and always made an effort throughout the internship. It's the type of environment and people I could see myself working with long-term in a future career. There were lots of socials too; within my 5 weeks I got to play netball with the team, go bowling, watch an England match, and more!

I really enjoyed my internship, everything about my experience was brilliant, and I think it was the perfect opportunity to learn more about the industry and the type of work and environment Deloitte has.
