Relationship Management Summer Intern Review

I was an intern so I was given a big project to do by my manager relating to business development/client outreach. As well as this I also had an intern business project and presentation that I had to complete and prepare for. I also did bits of work for some of my colleagues as and when they asked me for it. The rest of my time was spent shadowing my colleagues, attending their client and internal meetings, and learning from them about their role and career path and the company.

I think I was given a lot because I was allowed to come to in person client meetings. I was given a lot of work in the form of the two projects and in that sense I had a lot of responsibility it was not anything that could actually impact the bank negatively if I made a mistake. Most of the emphasis was on my learning and understanding if I want to go down this career path, which I greatly appreciate.

I have learnt so much about banking, private banking, commercial banking, wealth management, and relationship management. I learnt about the frontline, client facing roles but also about the middle office roles such as pricing and portfolio management. I learnt about how private bankers service their client needs, write credit applications, prepare for client meetings and debrief after them, do cash flow models on property, evaluate commercial business opportunities, carry our business development, and carry out client meetings. I have learnt so much about what working in banking is like, what working in an office is like, and what working for Coutts is like.

So much support, my manager was always there to answer questions and connect me with people across the bank. Everyone was so willing to give me their time and wisdom and teach me about what they do. I was learning so much every day and everyone was so supportive and kind and encouraging.

Fantastic. Everyone is kind and friendly and willing to have you shadow them and willing to help you with questions and advice. I never felt that I was looked down upon as an intern, and I feel I have made friends with my coworkers.

I have had an amazing time, learnt so much, and really enjoyed myself. I will miss coming in to work when my internship is over.
