Audit Analyst Review

During my 12-month Industrial Placement in Audit at Deloitte, I worked as part of audit teams supporting the delivery of statutory audits for a range of clients across different industries. My day-to-day responsibilities included performing substantive testing, analysing financial data, reviewing supporting documentation, and documenting audit evidence in line with Deloitte's methodology. I regularly collaborated with clients and colleagues to resolve queries, assess audit findings, and ensure work was completed accurately and efficiently. The role provided valuable exposure to financial reporting, risk assessment, and the overall audit process from planning through to completion.

I was given a significant level of responsibility throughout my placement and was trusted to manage key sections of audit work with increasing independence as my experience developed. This included owning specific testing areas, liaising directly with client contacts to obtain evidence and resolve queries, and presenting findings to senior team members. I was expected to exercise professional judgement, meet deadlines, and maintain high-quality documentation while working as part of a wider engagement team. The responsibility I was given helped me develop both my technical audit knowledge and my confidence in a professional environment.

During my placement at Deloitte, I developed a range of technical and professional skills, with Excel being one of the biggest areas of growth. I became much more confident using advanced Excel functions to analyse large datasets, perform reconciliations, identify exceptions, and support audit testing efficiently. Alongside this, I strengthened my analytical, communication, and time management skills through working on multiple audit engagements and collaborating with clients and colleagues.

I received a high level of support throughout my placement at Deloitte. From day one, I was supported by experienced colleagues who were always willing to answer questions, provide feedback, and help me develop my technical knowledge. Regular check-ins, on-the-job coaching, and structured training opportunities helped me build confidence and take on increasing responsibility throughout the year.

Despite working in a fast-paced environment, colleagues were approachable and willing to help, creating a positive atmosphere for learning and development. I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Deloitte and found it to be a highly rewarding experience. The role provided a great balance of challenge, responsibility, and support, allowing me to develop both professionally and personally. I particularly enjoyed working with a variety of clients and colleagues, gaining exposure to different industries, and seeing the impact of my work as part of the wider audit team.
