Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As an SAP Analyst on placement at Deloitte, I worked on SAP S/4HANA transformation projects, helping clients improve and implement finance processes. My day-to-day work included attending client workshops, gathering requirements, creating process documentation, maintaining project trackers, supporting testing activities, and analysing SAP configuration options.
I worked closely with consultants and client stakeholders from multinational corporations to solve problems, manage project deliverables, and support the design of SAP solutions.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was given a significant amount of responsibility throughout my placement. I owned a number of project deliverables, including process documentation, trackers, workshop materials, and data requests, and regularly worked and built relationships directly client stakeholders. As my confidence grew, I was trusted to lead meetings, manage work independently, coordinate with different teams, and contribute to key decisions within a large SAP S/4HANA transformation project.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Absolutely. During my placement I developed both technical and professional skills. I gained hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA, business process analysis, testing, and documenting system requirements. I also strengthened my Excel, PowerPoint and data analysis skills through managing project trackers, validating data, and producing client-facing deliverables.
Beyond the technical aspects, I significantly improved my communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills by working directly with consultants and clients, presenting work in meetings, and taking ownership of project tasks.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Huge support. At the beginning, we had Analyst Induction Programme which was 2 weeks training and onboarding. Following this, I was surrounded by incredible people in technology and transformation. My first project provided me with 3 extremely good mentors who really helped upskill me.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Incredible. Very collaborative, welcoming and supportive. On projects, I was seen as a member of the team and encouraged to give my perspectives, even during client meetings. My project colleagues were super approachable and always willing to answer questions. The atmosphere in the office was professional but fun at the same time. Lots of amazing socials and have built lifelong friendships and relationships with people across the firm. I was also involved in work for encouraging diversity - the women in technology team and the women in SAP team, which was a great experience and helped to support women in their careers at deloitte.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I absolutely loved my placement and could not have asked for a better experience. The work was challenging, meaningful, and varied, and I felt that I was making a genuine contribution to the project rather than just observing from the sidelines. The combination of supportive colleagues, responsibility from an early stage, opportunities to learn, and exposure to real client work made the year incredibly rewarding. I developed both professionally and personally, and it confirmed my interest in pursuing a career in consulting and technology. It was genuinely one of the most valuable and enjoyable experiences of my university career.

What advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte

My advice would be to make the most of every opportunity available to you and be personal. Be proactive, ask questions, volunteer for new challenges, and don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. The more effort you put in, the more you'll get out of the experience. Also, be authentic and be yourself. Deloitte is full of a wide range of people with lots of different interests. Everyone is social and wants to get to know you as a person, not just a colleague.
I'd also encourage people to keep an open mind when applying. There are often a lot of assumptions made about large consulting firms, but my experience was extremely positive. I found Deloitte to be collaborative, supportive, and genuinely invested in the development of its placement students. It exceeded my expectations and was one of the most rewarding experiences of my university career.
