Summer intern Review

During my placement, I worked alongside Deloitte’s Audit team on a real client engagement, supporting various stages of the audit process. My day-to-day responsibilities included reviewing financial information, performing audit testing, examining supporting documentation, and helping verify that financial records were complete and accurate. I also attended team meetings, collaborated with colleagues to discuss findings, and used Deloitte’s audit methodology and technology to support the engagement. The experience provided valuable insight into how audit teams work together to deliver high-quality assurance to clients.

Yes. I was trusted to contribute to a live client audit and was given responsibility for completing assigned audit procedures under the guidance of senior team members. I was expected to manage my own tasks, document my work clearly, communicate any issues I identified, and meet deadlines. Although my work was reviewed, I was treated as a member of the engagement team and given meaningful responsibility

Yes. The placement significantly developed both my technical and professional skills. I gained practical experience of the external audit process by working on a live client engagement, learning how to test financial information, review supporting evidence, and document audit work in line with Deloitte’s methodology. I also strengthened my Excel skills through analysing financial data and working with large datasets, while improving my attention to detail, problem-solving, and understanding of financial statements. Working closely with experienced auditors also developed my communication, teamwork, and time management skills.

I received excellent support throughout the placement. From the first day, the team made me feel welcome and ensured I understood my responsibilities. Whenever I had questions, colleagues and senior team members were approachable and willing to explain both the technical aspects of the audit and the reasoning behind the work. I received regular feedback, which helped me build confidence while contributing to a live client engagement. The balance between independence and support made the experience both challenging and rewarding.

Deloitte had a welcoming, collaborative and professional culture. From my first day, everyone was approachable and willing to help, regardless of seniority. I felt like a valued member of the team rather than just an intern, and people took the time to explain their work and answer questions. Despite working on a live client audit, the atmosphere remained supportive, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, continuous learning and delivering high-quality work. There was also a genuine commitment to inclusion and ensuring everyone felt comfortable contributing their ideas.

I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at Deloitte and found it to be an extremely valuable experience. Working on a live audit engagement gave me a realistic insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of an auditor and allowed me to apply my academic knowledge in a professional environment. The work was challenging and engaging, and I appreciated being trusted with meaningful tasks while receiving excellent support from the team. The collaborative culture, opportunities to learn from experienced professionals, and exposure to real client work made this one of the most rewarding experiences of my career so far.
