Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

my CCaSS Intern role involved supporting sustainability and climate-related consulting projects by conducting research, analysing data, preparing client deliverables and contributing to both technical and strategic workstreams. The role involved developing an understanding of areas such as climate risk, sustainability reporting, nature and biodiversity, decarbonisation and ESG regulations while working alongside consultants and subject matter experts. Learning technical capability, communicating complex sustainability concepts clearly and collaborating effectively with project teams and take ownership of tasks while seeking feedback and learning opportunities. Day to days roles: making PowerPoints for client facing material, excel climate risk modelling.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was given a good level of responsibility throughout my internship. Rather than just observing, I was trusted to contribute to client-facing work, including helping to develop PowerPoint deliverables, reviewing and refining climate risk registers, and supporting climate risk modelling activities. These tasks gave me exposure to both the technical and consulting aspects of sustainability projects, while allowing me to take ownership of workstreams and contribute to real client outcomes.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Yes, I have developed both new and existing skills during my internship. Through my work on climate and nature-related projects, I strengthened my analytical and research skills while gaining practical experience in climate risk assessment, sustainability reporting frameworks, and quantitative modelling. I also improved my ability to communicate complex information clearly through client presentations and reports, collaborate effectively within project teams, and manage multiple tasks independently in a professional consulting environment.

I received a lot of support throughout my internship. There were regular weekly intern meetings and check-ins which provided guidance, opportunities to ask questions, and a chance to learn from others. On my engagement team, colleagues were always approachable and willing to help, particularly when we were in the office together. I felt comfortable asking questions, seeking feedback, and discussing challenges, which helped me develop my confidence and make the most of the experience while still being given responsibility for meaningful pieces of work.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I thoroughly enjoyed my internship and found it to be a really rewarding experience. It was great to work in an area I’m genuinely passionate about while gaining insight into sustainability and climate issues from a consulting perspective. Alongside the work itself, I especially enjoyed the social side of the internship and meeting new people. My intern group was made up of five people and we all got along really well, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?

Yes

What advice would you give to others applying to EY

I would definitely recommend applying to EY. My advice would be to be yourself, show enthusiasm and be open to learning, as you don’t need to know everything from the start - and thats OK! I really enjoyed my internship because I was able to work on projects I was genuinely interested in while gaining a different perspective through consulting. The culture was supportive and inclusive, and there were plenty of opportunities to meet new people. The social side was a highlight too, as my intern group became good friends and made the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, it was a great balance of meaningful work, learning, and having fun.
