Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As an Insurance Audit Intern, I support audit teams by helping assess financial information, identify key risks, and gather evidence to support the audit process. My role involves contributing to planning, risk assessment, testing, and documentation to help ensure audits are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
On a day-to-day basis, I review financial and operational information to identify potential audit risks, attend client meetings and process walkthroughs to understand how key business processes operate, document controls and findings, and perform testing such as reconciliations and journal entry reviews. I also work closely with team members to resolve queries, maintain audit documentation, and ensure work is supported by appropriate evidence.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was given a good level of responsibility throughout my internship. From an early stage, I was trusted to work on key audit tasks independently, including identifying potential audit risks, performing testing procedures, and preparing audit documentation for team review.
I was also encouraged to attend client walkthroughs and meetings, where I was responsible for capturing key points, documenting processes and controls, and translating discussions into clear audit evidence. This meant that my work contributed directly to the team's understanding of client processes and the progress of audit workstreams.
While I received guidance and support when needed, I was given ownership of my tasks and trusted to manage them independently, which helped me develop both my technical knowledge and professional confidence.

Yes, definitely. Throughout my internship I was trusted to take ownership of meaningful audit tasks rather than simply observing. While I always had guidance available from colleagues, I was given the autonomy to manage my workload and take responsibility for delivering high quality work, which significantly developed my confidence and professional skills.

I received a high level of support throughout my internship. From the start, team members were approachable and willing to answer questions, explain concepts, and provide feedback on my work. At the same time, I was encouraged to work independently and take ownership of my tasks. Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?

Yes

What advice would you give to others applying to EY

My advice would be to be curious and take every opportunity as it comes. EY provides interns with real responsibility from an early stage, so taking initiative, asking thoughtful questions, and actively seeking opportunities to get involved will help you get the most out of the experience.
I'd also recommend building relationships with colleagues across the team. Everyone is incredibly knowledgeable and supportive, and being open to feedback can accelerate your learning. Also don't worry if you don't know everything from the start.
