Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Supported the GBRX/IPDR programme, contributing to the development of digital railway solutions and the Train Control Systems Framework (TCSF). Collaborated with suppliers, tracked technical requirements, and developed ETCS test yard layout concepts.
Supported a robotic asset management Proof of Concept, evaluating inspection processes, digital asset systems, and 3D scanning technologies. Contributed to a NavVis VLX scanning trial and identified opportunities for automation and AI-enabled inspection.
Gained multidisciplinary experience within the Civil Engineering Team on a major signalling renewal project, participating in HAZID workshops, utilising Geo-RINM and CAD tools, and reviewing infrastructure designs.

Not very much from direct manager, most of support came from hr or other year in industries and when i seeked out myself

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Very good work life balance, enjoyable space to work in, however the team i was in was not the most talkative especially as most of them did not come in the office much or at least when I was there

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I enjoyed it quite a lot got to see a side of what the railway lifestyle is like and all the different roles which are in it and involved, I was able to seek out many different opportunities and experiences
