Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I joined EY as a Summer Intern in Assurance – Audit. My role was mainly to support the seniors and managers on my team as they prepared for the Q2 audit. This involved updating the OAR, analysing movements in financial records for the quarter, and drafting commentary to explain key changes.
I also organised meetings for the team and took the opportunity to network with people across different departments and service lines.
I was generally in the office three days a week; however, during the internship many interns chose to come in more often due to the range of social and networking events available. The amount of time you spend in the office can also depend on your team and engagement. In addition, I had opportunities to work from client offices, which provided valuable exposure to the client environment and day-to-day audit activities.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given quite a lot of responsibility, by completing 50% of all the OAR notes and write ups this was checked by someone higher up than me however i was given the opportunity to do it all myself.

I received excellent support from my team throughout my placement. Everyone was incredibly helpful and approachable whenever I had questions, which made it much easier to learn and develop. I spent most of my time working closely with my team and built strong professional relationships as a result. While I know experiences can vary depending on the team someone joins, my experience was extremely positive.

The culture is very supportive and encourages curiosity, making it easy to ask questions and seek help when needed.
