SVS Intern Review

Across my 5 weeks with Deloitte I have been working in Business Tax and specifically on the TD side within the Gi3 team. During this time, I have networked with other SVS interns, colleagues within the Gi3 team and completed a variety of work relating to Capital Allowances. Notably, I have completed 4 HLRs and 1 Capex report, contributing to real life projects for Deloitte's clients. The experience of completing both templates exposed me to the methodology side behind Gi3's work and helped me to improve my excel skills. Additionally, I was tasked with undertaking research for the companies a PE house owns, as part of business development work and I will subsequently present my findings and suggestions in the last week. Lastly, I have engaged in more practical tasks such as the comp check / conflict check, alongside attending client and team calls.

Deloitte gave me much responsibility over my internship. Notably, I undertook independent research and presented my findings to a partner regarding what companies I believed were best to invests in from a capital allowances perspective. Additionally, I was tasked with completing a large section in the HLRs and Capex's.

Throughout the internship, I believe that I developed both my personal and technical skills. Regarding my technical skills, I am much more adept and skilled in navigating within excel through learning various shortcuts and formulas. Additionally, the experience of working on various projects at once has improved my time-management skills, whilst also I believe that the experience of updating people through teams/email has bettered my communication skills. Behaviourally, the experience of talking to new and older people has improved my confidence. Additionally, I feel more independent after this experience which enabled me to have the confidence to undertake parts of projects by myself.

During my internship, I received a wide range of support from my team. I loved how everyone in the team, regardless of position or age, was always around to lend a helping hand. Moreover, I received a lot of support from my buddy and people leader, who were always keen to check in on me and give me some top tips, alongside the partner who guided me through the overall process and set up of Deloitte. I believe that the most guidance came from the analysts, since they were able to relate to my position, so it was a shame that they had to go on study leave half way through!

The overall company culture and general atmosphere was one of inclusivity and warmth. Everyone was keen to help one another with certain tasks or offer support, regardless of age or position. I especially loved how the team frequently engaged in social events outside of the office and that we had lunch together most days, which allowed me to foster relationships.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time across my internship. The experience of meeting new people, contributing to real life projects and developing both my technical and behavioural skills was so rewarding. I also loved throwing myself into everything Deloitte had to offer, experiencing life in the office and having structure across my week.
