Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

During my internship, I worked across two Banking & Capital Markets teams, gaining exposure to a variety of clients and engagements. I was trusted to take ownership of individual tasks and deliver work independently, helping to build my confidence and professional judgement. I attended client calls and communicated directly with clients to request information, strengthening my communication skills and understanding of client relationships. I also took the opportunity to network with partners and colleagues across the business, broadening my understanding of EY and the wider industry while building valuable professional connections.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was given a good level of responsibility throughout my internship. I was trusted to work independently on a variety of audit tasks across two Banking & Capital Markets teams, taking ownership of my work and ensuring it was completed accurately and on time. I regularly attended client calls and communicated directly with clients to request information and follow up on outstanding items, which helped develop my confidence and professional communication skills. Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Yes, definitely. During my internship I developed both new and existing skills in a professional environment. I strengthened my communication skills through regular interactions with clients and team members, including requesting information and attending client calls. I also improved my time management and organisational skills by balancing work across two Banking & Capital Markets teams and managing multiple tasks simultaneously. In addition, I developed my technical audit knowledge and became more confident working independently, taking ownership of tasks and delivering work to a high standard. The experience has significantly increased my confidence in both my technical abilities and professional communication.

I received a high level of support throughout my internship. From the outset, team members were approachable and willing to answer questions, provide guidance and explain the purpose behind tasks. I had regular check-ins with colleagues and seniors, who provided constructive feedback that helped me develop both technically and professionally. While I was trusted to work independently and take ownership of tasks, I always felt supported when I needed help. Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?

Yes

What advice would you give to others applying to EY

My advice would be to be yourself throughout the application process and demonstrate a genuine willingness to learn. EY values curiosity, teamwork and a positive attitude just as much as technical knowledge. If you secure an internship, make the most of every opportunity by asking questions, volunteering for different tasks and being proactive in seeking feedback. I'd also recommend taking the time to network with colleagues across different teams, as this can provide valuable insights and help you get the most out of the experience. Most importantly, be open to learning from everyone around you and don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone.
