Summer Vacation Student Review

I am a Summer Vacation Scheme student within Audit & Assurance, supporting the audit team on client engagements. My role involves assisting with audit testing, reviewing financial information, updating workpapers, and helping the team gather evidence to support audit conclusions.
On a day-to-day basis, I work with trial balances, financial statements, and supporting documentation to perform tasks such as tie-through testing, analytical reviews, and checking the accuracy and completeness of financial information. I also use tools such as Excel and Deloitte's omnia audit software to document findings and track progress.

Yes, I was given a good level of responsibility for an intern. While my work was always reviewed by more experienced team members, I was trusted to complete audit testing and update workpapers independently.
I was responsible for managing my own tasks, asking questions where necessary, and communicating progress to the team.

Yes, I have developed both my Excel and accountancy skills significantly during my placement. In Excel, I have become more confident using functions such as VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, conditional formatting, data validation, and PivotTables to analyse and reconcile financial data. I have also improved my ability to work efficiently with large datasets and perform audit-related testing.

I received a high level of support and guidance throughout my internship. From the outset, team members were approachable and willing to answer questions, explain concepts, and provide feedback on my work.
