Spring into Deloitte Review

It was a great insight experience that provided a valuable introduction to life at Deloitte and the audit profession. Throughout the programme, we worked on a case study involving an imaginary company, which gave us an opportunity to apply analytical and problem-solving skills in a practical setting.
We also learned more about what auditors do on a day-to-day basis, the importance of professional scepticism and integrity in the profession, and how emerging technologies, particularly AI, are being integrated into audit processes to improve efficiency and support decision-making.

I found it very interesting to learn more about the business and the different roles available. The programme was structured in a way that made everything easy to understand, as new concepts, skills and tasks were introduced gradually, giving us time to practise and apply what we had learned. This hands-on approach helped me gain a much clearer understanding of the work involved in different roles. Everyone at Deloitte was also incredibly welcoming and supportive, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

One of the new skills I developed during the programme was gaining a better understanding of financial statements and learning how to calculate and interpret key financial ratios. I also strengthened several existing skills, particularly communication, presentation skills, teamwork and collaboration. Working on group tasks and case studies helped me further develop my time management and multitasking abilities, as we often had to manage different tasks and work effectively within set deadlines.

The company culture seemed very collaborative and welcoming. Everyone was approachable and willing to answer questions, which created a supportive learning environment. I particularly appreciated that every question felt valid and encouraged, making it easy to engage and learn more about the business and the different roles available. Overall, the atmosphere was friendly, inclusive and team-oriented.

I enjoyed the insight experience a lot. I thought it was a great introduction to audit and to Deloitte, providing a valuable overview of the work involved and the skills required. The only thing I would have enjoyed was having a slightly longer programme, perhaps extending it from two days to three or four days, as this would have allowed us to gain an even deeper understanding of audit and the day-to-day responsibilities of professionals. The opportunity to shadow an employee would also have been a valuable addition, as it would provide further insight into the realities of working in the profession.

My advice to others applying to Deloitte would be to take the time to build a strong understanding of the company and the work they do. Go beyond the basic “About Us” section on the website and try to understand Deloitte’s services, the role of auditors, and any recent developments or news involving the firm. This will help you demonstrate genuine interest and show that you understand the profession you are applying for.
I would also encourage applicants to be themselves throughout the process and show their personality beyond just their academic achievements. Deloitte values people who are curious, collaborative and willing to learn, so don’t be afraid to share your experiences, interests and what makes you unique.
