Collaborate with teachers and pastoral staff to track progress and adapt support strategies.
Participate in professional training and reflective practice to strengthen mentoring, leadership, and communication skills
Planning and carrying out school based projects
On a day to day basis, I would see 1-3 students a day for a check in. This check in would be to focus on SEMH needs and go through activities to work on particular things like confidence or self esteem. Some check ins would also just be playing games to relax. As a mentor we would also carry out 1:1 interventions in English and Math.
All of which is very rewarding when you see their updated progress data
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
As a mentor I would have the responsibility of my mentees, updating mentoring records regularly and carrying out rating assessments SEMH needs of my mentees.
Leadership opportunities like carrying out school projects, or leading celebration events with City Year

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
One is Leadership, City Year had an enterprise day. Mentors were put into random groups and assigned roles at random. Being assigned the role of Sub-Leader I really got the chance to see what it is like leading a team and felt extremely confident doing so, also now confident I can do so in the future.
Another skill is Speaking. At city year we did a Red Talk. We had the opportunity to speak in front of our cohort on any topic at all. Previously hating public speaking, with the practise and support from CY I do honestly feel more confident speaking in front of a group.
Other skills learnt and developed at CY include Teamwork (Endless times where you work as a team and develop together),
Listening, positive thinking, critical thinking skills.
