Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Worked as a volunteer mentor at Trafford Alternative Education Provision 4x a week. I worked with students who struggled with EBSNA, SEND, medical difficulties (eating difficulties, anxiety/depression,ADHD) I worked with them to help them with any needs, social and emotional learning and through mentoring sessions weekly to help improve their wellbeing.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes - this was quite a demanding role and required lots of energy, time and effort with it be spending time with the students, helping staff with classroom management , doing 1:1 meetings with my line manager, assisting kids on trips and activities.

Yes - i have learnt to be patient, adapting, actively listening, open communication and being SEND friendly. This will all be so useful for me in my future careers

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

A lot of guidance/support - my line manager or IO was the backbone of my experience. she was there anytime i was in need and would always check up on our wellbeing and mental health. i had such a good group of fellow mentors and we all bonded so well together. we all supported each other so well. the CY staff were also so helpful as well

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

absolutely amazing! we had such a wholesome vibe and atmosphere each Friday and it was so lovely to see what the other schools were up to! everyone wants to cheer everyone on and that's what it's all about.

Please do it if you get the chance! You'll learn so much about yourself and others and just gain a new insight into empathy and understanding! It's so rewarding and you'll feel so accomplished after completing the year.
