Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

Overview:
The Spring into Deloitte programme gave me a structured introduction to life in a Big Four professional services firm, with rotations across both the Audit and Tax service lines. The scheme was designed to give students exposure to how these teams operate day-to-day, the kind of work they deliver for clients, and what a career path in either area might look like.
Day-to-day:
Each day combined a mix of hands-on work and learning. In the Audit rotation, this involved applying core financial analysis frameworks to live client materials and understanding how audit teams test and verify financial statements. In the Tax rotation, I got exposure to advisory work and how tax teams support clients' compliance and planning needs. Throughout the programme, I contributed to team deliverables alongside qualified staff, attended training sessions to build technical grounding in both service lines, and had opportunities to network with current graduates and senior staff to learn more about their career journeys at Deloitte.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

The Spring into Deloitte programme gave me a clear, well-rounded picture of how the business operates and the breadth of roles available beyond what I'd expected going in. Rotating across both Audit and Tax meant I could compare the two service lines directly, seeing how audit teams approach financial statement testing and assurance versus how tax teams handle advisory and compliance work for clients. This made it much easier to understand where my own interests and strengths might fit best.
Beyond the technical exposure, sessions with current graduates and senior staff helped me understand the different career pathways within Deloitte, how teams are structured, and what progression looks like from graduate to senior levels. It gave me a realistic sense of what day-to-day life is like in a Big Four firm, and helped me think more concretely about which service line and career path I'd want to pursue going forward.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, the programme helped me both build new skills and sharpen existing ones. On the technical side, I developed a stronger understanding of financial analysis frameworks and how they're applied to real client materials, which gave me practical grounding to complement what I'd learned academically. Working across both Audit and Tax also improved my ability to quickly get up to speed on unfamiliar processes and adapt to different working styles within each team.
On the professional skills side, I strengthened my communication and teamwork abilities through contributing to live team deliverables, learned how to manage tasks and deadlines within a structured client-facing environment, and became more confident asking questions and seeking feedback from senior colleagues. The programme also improved my commercial awareness, understanding not just the technical work itself, but why it matters to clients and the broader business.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The overall culture at Deloitte felt genuinely collaborative and supportive, especially for someone new to the professional environment. Despite being a large Big Four firm, the atmosphere on my team felt approachable rather than intimidating, senior staff and graduates were consistently willing to explain things, answer questions, and make sure I felt included in day-to-day work rather than just observing from the sidelines.
There was a strong emphasis on teamwork, with people happy to share knowledge and help me understand not just how to do a task, but why it was done a certain way. The general atmosphere balanced professionalism with warmth, people took their client work seriously, but there was also a friendly, sociable side to the office, with informal chats and networking opportunities that made it easy to get to know people across different levels of seniority.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?

I thoroughly enjoyed the Spring into Deloitte insight. It gave me exactly what I was hoping for, a genuine, hands-on feel for life at a Big Four firm rather than just a surface-level overview. Being able to rotate across both Audit and Tax meant I left with a much clearer sense of the differences between the two, and the people I worked with made the experience welcoming and genuinely enjoyable rather than intimidating. It's reinforced my interest in pursuing a career in professional services and made me even more excited about my future.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?

Yes

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte

My biggest tip would be to prepare well for the application process itself, in my experience, it involved a test alongside exercises focused on finding discrepancies in data, which gives you a taste of the analytical, detail-oriented thinking that auditing actually involves. Practicing numerical reasoning and attention-to-detail style questions beforehand really helps.
I'd also stress how important Deloitte's values are throughout the process, it's not just about technical ability, but genuinely understanding and reflecting the firm's values in how you answer questions and present yourself. Being able to connect your own experiences back to those values, rather than just giving generic answers, makes a real difference.
Finally, be yourself rather than trying to give the "perfect" answer, assessors are looking for genuine curiosity, good communication, and a willingness to learn. And once you're on the programme itself, make the most of every opportunity to network with graduates and senior staff, it's often the part people remember and value most.
