Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I was a data scientist and did a lot of data analysis, applying machine learning algorithms and full stack app development by coding in languages like HTML, CSS, Java and Python and utilising multiple AWS features

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was scrum master of my team and I regularly presented my work to higher levels of leadership too. I held a lot of responsibility and presented to plant director too and led my team.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I learnt lots of new skills by using AWS applications and I further developed my skills in full stack app development. The biggest new skill I developed was my presentation skills and business management.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I had a mentor and I had a line manager so I was always feeling fully supported and they always made sure to not overwork me while also giving me ample opportunities to do meaningful work too. They had regular 1-1s to check in and I never felt unsupported.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The office was always lots of fun, everyone is very welcoming and inclusive and made me feel very supported. If something was wrong, there was always someone to turn to and the office culture didn't put work before health or wellbeing.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I enjoyed my time, work hours were sensible and there was very rarely a need to work overtime. My work felt meaningful too so I was happy.

Make sure to show a willingness to learn - there are a lot of unique things to learn here and you will never be fully prepared so just show the ability to dedicate yourself and work hard to learn.
