Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I was working as a mentor in a secondary school and I was doing 1:1 sessions with students who have autism and had high social and emotional needs. I had a timetable and would go in classes like Maths, English, Science, History, Spanish, Life Lessons and support year 7s up to year 9s. I would also do duty in the school, invigilate in exams and take part in team meetings.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes. I was given a list of 7 students and I was responsible for their social and emotional learning as well as their academic improvement. Using strategies for self awareness, responsible decision making we tried to make a plan to improve the overall performance of the students. I was also part of school trips supervising a large number of students and I was also responsible for duty, making sure that there were no fights in the corridors and everything was running smoothly during break time and lunch time.

Yes. I have developed leadership skills by leading team meetings and speakings skills by doing public speaking in front of the cohort and other corporate partners of the school.
