Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
A youth mentor involved building trusting relationships with pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to help them with their social-emotional development as well as their academic performance. However, this also involved participating in community activities to support those communities through social action programs. On the day-to-day, the role involves tutoring students, wellbeing checks, social-emotional learning, school duties, etc.

I learnt to be more organised in the sense that I need to prioritise completing mundane tasks first before I can focus on more important tasks. I have also learnt to build better connections with people.

I received a decent level of support from my impact officer since January as she helped with university-related matters and provided helpful advice on how to act as a staff member within a school.

There was a major emphasis on idealism and positivity but I feel like it wasn’t something I wanted to engage with a lot of times.
