Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As an industrial engineer the job involves identifying inefficiencies and bottlenecks using data and simulations. These issues can then be improved and demonstrated through multiple software's that illustrate the necessary changes to rectify the problem. The job role has also been modernised with the use of AI agents and other in built tools to increase productivity and transparency.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes I was given a lot of responsibility, especially with digital tasks such as AI agents and python coding.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Yes, primarily coding in Python, SQL and JavaScript which I had no previous experience with. Also developed skills in CAD like simulation software's and my data skills within excel.

A lot of support. The team were very welcoming and friendly and would always give guidance and help if needed. If the immediate team weren't sure they always knew the people to direct you too.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The companies culture is very friendly, everyone seems welcoming and is happy to help. The culture also gives you the ability to chase and develop your own projects and targets if they are worthwhile and gives you the responsibility to achieve your aims.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

This placement was very useful for myself. I learnt a lot of new skills and developed previous soft and hard skills. This has given me an insight into the industry and what is needed of an engineer to excel in this work environment. I thought the year was enjoyable and gave me a lot of experiences that I would never have had.

Network as much as possible and get as much experience as you can with the different departments and people. It is a great place to get industry insight and experience whilst also developing skills that are needed for this work.
