Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Role involves supporting the bespoke interior trim team to plan, develop and produce highly bespoke/custom parts for high value clients. It means helping in project management of upcoming projects, helping with logistics of these projects, using CAD to design parts for the team from jigs to custom display parts.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, all the work given felt that it actually had meaning and was essential to the relevant project. Failure to complete meant real consequences.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Learnt a lot of new hands on skills, including handling and using leather, and using all the machines used to process leather. Developed my CAD skills, 3D printing abilities and general team working skills.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

The support was excellent with weekly 1 to 1 sessions with my manager. Support was given wherever needed by anyone who was on hand to help. Everyone is happy to help and understand you are there to learn and develop in the work place.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Company culture is good. There is respect across the business with many upholding the idea of perfection at such a prestigious car company however there can be friction between departments.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is a great place to work. They are often not looking for the smartest person in the room. Jobs here are often very specific and often rather weird due to the nature of the products produced so the hard/soft skills specific to the job are more important.
