Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Teaching 80% of a full timetable at a secondary school in order to complete a QTS. This includes being responsible for a number of classes regarding planning, marking and understanding the progress of all students academically, but also regarding their attitude and behaviour as well.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The apprenticeship through Ripley ITT has been informative and supportive which has been important considering how hands on the route requires us to be. I have developed my confidence massively throughout the whole year and really enjoy teaching high school students about History.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed my confidence and my understanding of a range of different areas within school, such as sequence of learning, adaptive teaching and how students remember more, but the programme provided a number of pedagogy resources which helped build my confidence in those key areas.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is bespoke and personalised to align with the development of skills when they become more important throughout the course. For example, at the beginning of the year, there will be a focus on classroom routines and behaviour strategies, while at the end, it will be more focused on helping SEND students and creating personalised resources as we become more confident in our classroom practice.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

There was a wide variety of ways that Ripley supported us, through questionnaires and also having different tutors for different aspects of the course, such as a personal tutor for observations and a subject tutor for subject knowledge.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

A large amount of support to ensure we always knew what we needed to do to successfully complete each task.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The apprenticeship has provided a broader understanding of the role as a teacher specifically, but has added on to the knowledge that already existed when being employed in a school without feeling like I was starting from scratch.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I have taken part in the running of a netball team with Sixth Form, which has been supported and encouraged by different colleagues at the LCC school. The opportunity to learn from other apprentices and get an insight into different settings has also been incredibly useful.

The apprenticeship route has been smooth and purposeful, and encouraged me to become more confident in my role and understanding how I can reflect and improve in the future.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lancashire County Council?
Don't be afraid to ask for help or support if things become overwhelming, because there will always be strategies in place to assist with making sure you are staying on track.
