Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I support the team across a range of activities aligned with client coverage, market analysis, and internal coordination. My role provides exposure to how the bank engages with corporate clients and deliver strategic solutions.
On a day-to-day basis, I contribute to research and analysis, including reviewing market trends, sectors, and company performance to support ongoing projects and client discussions. I also assist in preparing materials such as presentations and briefing documents, ensuring information is clear, accurate, and tailored to the intended audience. In addition, I collaborate closely with colleagues across the team, helping to coordinate internal processes, track tasks, and maintain organisation across multiple workstreams. This involves managing data, supporting meeting preparation, and ensuring follow-ups are completed efficiently.
Overall, the role combines analytical work, communication, and teamwork, offering a well-rounded experience of working in a fast-paced banking environment.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was given a meaningful level of responsibility throughout my placement, which allowed me to contribute to the team’s work from an early stage. Rather than only observing, I was entrusted with supporting live projects and taking ownership of specific tasks, which helped me develop both confidence and accountability.
Over time, my responsibilities increased as I became more familiar with the team’s priorities and ways of working. I was relied upon to produce research and analysis, contribute to materials used in internal discussions, and help ensure workstreams progressed efficiently. This required strong attention to detail, effective time management, and the ability to work independently while still collaborating closely with colleagues.
I also had opportunities to take initiative, whether by identifying areas for improvement, suggesting ideas, or proactively supporting team members where needed. This level of responsibility made the experience both challenging and rewarding, and significantly enhanced my professional skills.
Overall, the placement provided a supportive environment where I was trusted to contribute in a meaningful way while continuing to learn and develop.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend UBS to a friend?

Yes

What advice would you give to others applying to UBS

I would recommend spending time building a strong understanding of UBS as a business, including its values, culture, and the division you are applying to. Being able to clearly explain why you are interested in the firm and how you align with its approach can make a real difference.
It’s also important to demonstrate a balance of skills. Alongside technical knowledge, UBS places a strong emphasis on qualities such as teamwork, communication, adaptability, and initiative. Using specific examples to show how you’ve demonstrated these skills will strengthen your application.
Throughout the process, try to be genuine and confident in your experiences rather than trying to give “perfect” answers. Showing curiosity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn is key.
Finally, preparation is crucial. Taking the time to practice assessments, reflect on your experiences, and stay up to date with industry developments will help you approach each stage with confidence.
