Engineer - Traffic and Safety Review

In the interest of clarity for this review, my current role at Lancashire County Council is Engineer - Traffic and Safety. The apprenticeship I completed was Level 4 Civil Engineering Senior Technician and was delivered by Burnley College. Both will be referred to accordingly.
This question is not particularly relevant to the apprenticeship as there is only a minor overlap between the apprenticeship course and my role at Lancashire County Council. The qualification was deemed necessary under a historic training framework and relates very little to my current role.
My role as a Traffic and Safety Engineer includes: handling enquiries from members of the public concerning issues of highway network management and road safety; reviewing the suitability of proposed Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders (e.g. road closures); assessing locations for resident permit parking schemes on request; designing and proposing engineering solutions to change the regulation of the local highway network across Burnley and Pendle in the interest of traffic movement and road safety; meeting with district councils and event organisers regarding any potential impact on the local highway network relating to events either on or off the highway; meeting with the police at locations where fatal road traffic collisions have occurred to determine any highway related issues that could have contributed to the incident; various other administrative roles.
The apprenticeship included mathematics in construction, the built environment, principles of structural engineering, bridge and tunnel construction principles, highway construction principles, design of substructures and superstructures, and sustainability in the construction industry among other topics.

Issues relating to staffing and room availability at Burnley College caused difficulty and disruption with learning and the completion of assignments. Last minute or failures in communication between the college and students led to unnecessary travel and discrepancies between what was asked of the assignments and what was expected in terms of marking criteria.

My line manager was very supportive however there were some communication failures between the delegated officers from my organisation and me as an apprentice.

The staff delivering the course content were generally supportive.

There are only a limited number of occasions in my current role where I am expected to understand or apply the civil engineering principles delivered as part of the course. However, in these cases, I have a better understanding of the civil engineering principles involved.

Work - Lancashire County Council is an inclusive and engaging place to work. Management are generally supportive and the work is interesting and fulfilling.
Apprenticeship through Burnley College - I would not recommend studying an apprenticeship through Burnley College for the reasons previously stated. Communication issues and intentional oversubscription leading to unsuitable learning spaces at the college made the apprenticeship more stressful than necessary.
