Accounts Payable & Receivables Apprentice Review

Over the past 18 months as a Level 2 Accounting Apprentice within the NHS, I have developed a strong foundation in financial and accounting processes while gaining valuable experience in a busy public sector environment. Throughout the apprenticeship, I have supported day‑to‑day finance operations, including processing invoices, raising purchase orders and assisting with reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with NHS financial procedures.
The apprenticeship has enabled me to apply theoretical knowledge to practical tasks, improving my understanding of financial controls, budgeting principles, and the importance of governance within the NHS. I have developed strong attention to detail, improved my Excel and financial systems skills, and gained confidence in handling financial data responsibly. Working closely with colleagues across finance and operational teams has strengthened my communication skills and my ability to work collaboratively and professionally.
Overall, this apprenticeship has been a valuable learning experience that has enhanced both my technical accounting knowledge and my broader workplace skills. It has prepared me well for progression within NHS finance and provided a solid platform for further professional development in accounting and finance. Due to this, I have began a career in finance and taken up another role full time as a management accountant and very much enjoying my time.

The apprenticeship programme was very well organised, with clear structure, expectations, and timelines throughout. Training, support, and reviews were well coordinated, allowing me to balance my studies with day‑to‑day work effectively. The organisation of the programme made learning manageable, consistent, and highly effective, contributing positively to my overall experience.

I received excellent support from my employer throughout the apprenticeship programme. My manager and colleagues were approachable, encouraging, and consistently available to provide guidance and feedback. This level of support made it easier to develop my skills, balance work with studies, and feel confident in my progression throughout the programme.

I received a lot of support from my training provider with regular meetings and check ins. I also received a lot of support with the course work and how to organise it.

My qualification, allows me to pick up my new role easily as I am able to apply my knowledge to my responsibilities with no issues.
