Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
My Day to day role involves being on shift at Heathrow supporting the aircraft engineering operation. Every day is different some days could be replacing wheels and brakes, or replacing flight controls, the next could involve troubleshooting an aircraft defect. So no two days are the same.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I really enjoy my programme, we get lots of support from our management team who are always happy to help. They are very supportive and help us get involved with different projects around the business when they arise to help us become better and more skilled engineers in the future.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Absolutely, every day is different learn something new, whether it’s about a system or process or something new and different about a specific aircraft type or component.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
Really well structured. You spend 1 year away at the beginning at the training provider and learn all the different modules you need to gain you Cat A licence from the CAA, before returning to Heathrow in yr 2 and 3 for real life hands on expenses the BA aircraft through a series of different 6 month placements in the different engineering areas across the business.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
Lots of support, with really supportive managers who are always happy to help and give guidance. They also have our best interest in mind by giving us different learning opportunities to be able to understand different areas and gain different experiences.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

4/5
Our training provider is good, they are always supportive and helpful. Although they are a little bit slow at returning work to us to be able to review any feedback and return it to them.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
The CAA A licence is a qualification that allows me to work on aircraft and certify my own work. This is really useful qualification and is difficult to get.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Within the apprenticeship there is lots of opportunities, you can get involved with emerging talent, as well as fundraisers, community outreach support and experience different areas of the business.
