Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

I gained an insight into the corporate finance world through attending client and internal meetings, conducting my own research on the area, undertaking the firm's training courses and assisting in the construction of multiple presentations.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

The training resources provided were very informative and aimed at beginners which was very useful for me. Speaking with the partners and directors on my team allowed me to gain a great insight into why KPMG is one of the best places to start a career in finance or professional services.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have gained a lot of knowledge into the corporate finance world and the systems used to keep track of the deals happening in the market. I have improved my communication skills and confidence by reaching out to the partners and directors and booking meetings with all of them. I have gained a lot of experience in working in a professional environment.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The general atmosphere was very friendly, and all the London team members took the time to introduce themselves to me and make me feel welcome. The company culture was very much of the idea that everyone helps each other suceed, and that learning and development are very important in the firm.

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?

I really enjoyed the vacation scheme because it showed me what working for a top finance/consultancy firm is like, and it also showed me how my career can grow and progress in this sector.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG

Just be yourself in the inteview - I had multiple interviews with similar firms and KPMG was the one where it felt like a friendly converstaion. Obviously do your research beforehand but if you've made it to the interview you have the type of mind they are looking for, so just be yourself.
