Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am currently in the emerging talent development team and my role has been planning the yearly apprentice forum, therefore my days consisted of speaking to external suppliers, contacting the hotel, inviting apprentices to the event, planning the event. I did this alongside my placement manager

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my programme. I love how i get the opportunity to explore 3 different parts of the company for 4 months at a time in my first year. I also have many opportunities to shadow other teams

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

My apprenticeship programme so far has given me the opportunity to develop my confidence in so many ways, i have drastically improved with public speaking/ presenting as well as communicating with internal and external people.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is very well structured, we have our set study days and monthly workshop days which we know about in advance. We also are aware of when our placement rotations will be

How much support do you receive from your employer?

We have regular one to one meetings with our line manager. Also we have many meetings with our placement mangers and communicate often during work days. We also have progress reviews with our learner provider, line managers and placement managers.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Our training provider delivers our study days on a friday and we can communicate all through the day if needed, we also can reach out during the week if we have any questions or concerns. They also set up progress review meetings with us and the current placement manager

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Very good as we always know what we are working towards and what KSB,s we need to complete

As withinbthe first 6 months I feel like I have learnt so much and im so excited for what my future holds here at British Airways, it really is an amazing company to be able to work for

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?

I would say be honest and be yourself throughout the whole application progress as with the apprentices they know that we have likely come from school and they are looking for people to teach and give them the opportunity to gain qualifications whilst working
