Overall Rating

3.8 /5

The Overall Rating is the average of all the ratings given in each category. We take those individual ratings and combine them into one final score!

3.5/5 - Overview of Role
5/5 - Skills Development
3.6/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

4/5
Day to day, my current role involves threat hunting, writing Cyber news that may affect our company, geopolitical reporting, and presenting to our business on Cyber news.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

3/5
The core parts of the programme are good, it's generally well run with great respect for your time. The people are really open and genuine, but innovation/change is slow, and there is a lot of admin and tracking of progress rather than actually making it happen.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I have learnt coding at university, I have learnt communication and presentation skills, I have learnt stakeholder management and given a few projects to run.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

3/5
The overall programme has a clear, well-structured format. With respect for one day a week, and support when necessary. However, the ratio of apprentices to managers creates a structure that can feel one-directional at times and can result in mandated work and extensive tracking.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

4/5
We have a 'Career Sponsor' and a 'Line Manager', allowing us two places to go when we need support. Career sponsors are key to development and can help fight our corner when needed. Support from the wider programme can feel less consistent at points.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

3/5
They come every quarter for a check-in and are available via Teams ping when needed. But there isn't much support beyond that.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

3/5
The course is decent for basics, but generally speaking, it is an outdated course using different processes to that of my company.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Yes, pretty much anything you are interested in has a club, the teams are social and the christmas party is a big bonus.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?

No

Why?

The company has great people and decent opportunities, but it's more corporate and process-driven than it was when I joined. Recent structural changes have reduced certainty; without the comfort of a role afterwards, it can be difficult to commit to the company.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?

be unapologetically yourself
