Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
As an Early Years Educator Apprentice, my role is to support the learning, development, and wellbeing of young children in a safe and nurturing environment. I work as part of a team to help deliver high-quality care and education in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
On a day-to-day basis, I help plan and set up activities that support children’s development across all areas, such as communication, physical skills, and social interaction. I engage with the children through play, encouraging them to explore, ask questions, and build confidence. I also support routines like mealtimes, nappy changing, and supporting children with toileting, always promoting independence where appropriate.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

4/5
enjoy my Early Years Educator apprenticeship to a great extent, as it allows me to combine practical work with learning. I find it rewarding to support children’s development and see their progress over time, especially when they achieve new milestones or gain confidence in their abilities.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

4/5
I have improved my communication skills, especially when interacting with young children, as I have learnt to use clear language, active listening, and non-verbal communication to support their understanding. I have also developed my teamwork skills by working closely with colleagues and contributing to planning and daily routines.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

3/5
at times the workload can feel challenging, especially when deadlines for coursework overlap with busy periods in the setting. Despite this, the structure of the programme overall helps me manage my time and stay focused.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

4/5
They provide guidance in my day-to-day role, helping me understand routines, expectations, and how to support children’s learning and development effectively.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

3/5
I do find the online platform quite difficult to navigate at times. The “top picks” or tasks are often not up to date, and sometimes they reflect content from the previous month rather than what we are currently working on. This can make it confusing to know what I should be focusing on and can affect how I manage my workload.
Despite this, I am still able to get support when needed, and overall the training provider helps me stay on track and continue progressing in my qualification.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

4/5
The course gives me a clearer understanding of child development, the EYFS framework, and how to support children’s learning in a more structured and effective way.
It has helped me improve my practice, especially in areas such as planning activities, observing children, and understanding how to support their individual needs. I am more confident in what I do because I understand the reasons behind different approaches and how they benefit the children’s development.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
No

You gain valuable hands-on experience working with children while also building your knowledge through training. The team is generally helpful and approachable, which makes it easier to learn and grow in confidence. It’s also a rewarding role, as you can see the impact you have on children’s development every day.
