Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role consists of helping out on audits as an audit associate. This ranges from completing testing, to board minutes, work papers, review notes, screens and much more. On a day to day basis I work on what is most urgent and work on many different clients, so no one day is the same.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I think it is an extremely good opportunity in terms of the real world experience and being treated the same as everyone else. However it is extremely anxiety inducing and intense especially with everything that there is to do with the apprenticeship side of things. I feel like there's never any dedicated time for this and it becomes overwhelming to keep on top of everything. I've picked up many skills which I'm grateful for but there isn't always coaching and there's always a lot of proactivity involved.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, I am always developing new skills and in this type of corporate environment, you pick up a lot of skills such as teamworking, confidence, email writing, communicating with clients and analytical skills.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I think the programme is very well structured, with the level 4 AAT programme allowing for level 7 ACA exemptions.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I think there is support available is requested however in general, it is very overwhelming and hard to separate work from studying. It's difficult to tell your team sometimes you won't be able to work overtime because you need to revise for exams as most managers will just see you as a regular member of the team. I wish there was more emphasis and time and support put on the importance of exams, as failing exams more than once leads to you being let go from the company.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

BPP is very good at providing materials as well as videos on the hub and step tests to help with the programme.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It definitely helps with providing some context behind some areas that I work on in a day to day basis. However, I definitely feel like I cover a lot more areas whilst working in audit before I even learn it. I do not think this is necessarily a bad thing as long as there's adequate training.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes there are definitely loads of different opportunities and loads of different networks.

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is such an amazing opportunity and the bigger picture and long term opportunities are very much worth the effort. You earn a salary whilst getting a free education. However, it can be very intense and may have an affect on mental health.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
Research the company and their values and mention these. Also research KPMG specific tools which are key to the business. AI is becoming a huge part of helping out with audit, so definitely worth a mention.
