Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
As a Level 6 Engineering Technician Apprentice, I rotate through different departments within the business every 3 months. This allows me to develop my understanding of the work processes used at MINI Plant Oxford.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Varied departments allow me to develop skills in different areas of the business - practical, digital and interpersonal. Allowing me to grow as an individual and have a better understanding of the business in preparation for completing my apprenticeship.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

4/5
Personally for me I think the structure is good, being able to do 3 month placements within different areas of the business really develops our understanding. I think for Engineering Technician Apprentices in the future, having some exposure in first year would be beneficial. It was only towards the end of 1st year where we were able to spend 1 day a week within our home departments and I think if you could do this from an earlier stage or throughout the entirety of the year it would be even better.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I think the support received from our employee is very good, if we have issues or concerns they always seek to sort this whether within our placements or with our training provider.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

3/5
Overall, the support received from the training provider is okay. Sometimes when we seek support or improvement it doesn't always come i.e. improvements to the lesson structure and sometimes it can take a while to actually receive the feedback from our assignments. Though saying this, when we do receive our feedback, I'd say it is generally beneficial for us - particularly if we have another assignment in the same module.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

4/5
The apprenticeship qualification is relevant in some areas and less relevant in others. The FD/Degree in Manufacturing Engineering has a few modules beneficial though some others could be better developed or suited to help us perform better in our roles. Overall I'd say its fairly okay and the knowledge crossovers are there.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
As an apprentice there are various extra-curricular activities to get involved in, including the newsletter team and charity champion teams. There are also opportunities to take part in social activities within placement departments including technology forums, where all relevant departments get together.
