Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

4/5
I deal with quality management and new project management for tooling inside the paintshop. Ensuring that we have sufficient clean tooling for the cars along with developing new tooling, props and set jigs for future models. Along with this I help with the new paintshop processes, specifically wax and foaming which is being introduced into the paintshop.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

4/5
I enjoy the work aspect of it and getting involved in many different high level projects. However the college side is a roller coaster and not the smoothest in terms of the level of teaching etc.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I have learnt many work placed skills which are both technical and general. Ranging from presentation/public speaking skills to engineering skills and developing new products/jigs.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

3/5
From a work side is is decent as my manager is very helpful and supports me in what I want to do to develop and learn as much as possible. The college/eduction side is very poor and structured awfully with changing lecturers constantly and not good teaching at all.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
They are great and we have similar goals on where i want to go so support me in my aspirations.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

1/5
No, it feels like just a check box for them and they just want to get us done as quick as possible without actually teaching us stuff relevant to our workplace.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

2/5
Minimal stuff links with work, some management things help but it is mainly learning at work on the job rather than eduction from college.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

1/5
None, it is bad.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Overall coming straight out of school in the workplace you develop alot, learn alot and are able to experience lots of cool things. However it is very easy to get put in a bad department with poor managers which dont develop you well, so it is luck of the draw and the education is lack luster. If you get lucky it is great but easy for the process to be a bad experience.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?

Look for something you actually have an interest in and dont be afraid to quit if you dont like it because if it is bad at the beginning it is unlikely to improve.
