Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Operating paint robots including process checks, cleaning and scheduled smaller maintenance tasks. Performing paint repairs on Rolls Royce bodies. Programming paint programs for continued improvement. Problem solving to find root causes of paint defects and implementing solutions.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Some days can be very slow with not a lot to do. Slowly earning responsibility and being given more projects to work on independently which I enjoy. Can be rewarding but also frustrating. Job role isn’t exactly what it was advertised to be, course isn’t particularly relevant and less software based than first made out to be.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Learnt new problem solving and lean manufacturing skills to help improve processes, these include things such as 5S and root cause analysis. Developed my coding/programming skills and how to deploy/trial items in a live environment.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Structure started off fairly poorly but has improved with leadership change, still has a long way to go. College was reasonably well organised but after finishing first course I am know working full time for 9 months+. Work placements are my responsibility but have had some opportunities vanish after setting them up or weeks previously.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Apprentice team are very strong and have always been able to help even with very short notice. Within my own department not as much but improving as they work out our wants/needs.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Tutor was excellent for my first course, training provider slightly less so but as a mature apprentice I don’t feel like that has had much of an effect to bring the score down.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Apart from lean manufacturing basics which we don’t use much of in my role, the course didn’t have any relevance to my day to day job. This is being changed for future apprenticeships which is a positive move.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Small selection of work sports teams, quite a strong offering of professional networking events and external work training/courses. Lots of apprentices go and do talks to students at schools in the local area. Socials don’t really exist departmentally but lots of apprentices make their own.
