Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
My role typically involves ensuring the room is safely set up for the children, doing handovers in the mornings and at pick up times for their children, doing nappies and toilet runs, weekly observations for my key children, understanding and learning more about each of the children. Ensuring that necessary paperwork is done and completed correctly, doing hourly headcount of the children, signing them in and out overall safeguarding of the children, myself and other colleagues.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I really enjoy working at Bright Horizons Elizabeth Terrace Day Nursery and Preschool the team is really supportive and are always there to help when I am unsure of something like policies, forms, advice on what to do or say in certain situations. Since I came into the industry with basically no knowledge of childcare or children's development they have all really helped to develop my knowledge and learn from my mistakes.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I have learnt quite a few skills while working at Bright Horizons Elizabeth Terrace Day Nursery and Preschool as well as developing my existing skills. I have learnt how children process information differently so it is better to word certain things in different ways so that everyone can inclusively understand and learn. I have learnt how to communicate with children of different ages and how certain activities can be adapted to have the same purpose but be more suitable for the age ranges.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
I feel as though the programme is really organised, information is labelled very clearly in specific sections so things do not get lost or misplaced

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I have received a lot of support from my employer, encouraging words, reminders that all I can do is my best so to just try my best and not doubt myself so much

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
I feel as though my tutor was very supportive and understanding of when unexpected situations happened in my time during the apprenticeship so she was there to offer advice and was really patient.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
It helped me to get a better understanding of children's development overall and how there are multiple stages and milestones so I am able to keep that in mind when interacting with children in different rooms.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

4/5
There are times where we will get together to do team bonding activities and days or nights out

Working at Bright Horizons Elizabeth Terrace Day Nursery and Preschool has been a wonderful and uplifting experience and I feel ad though the support from everyone on the team has just been the best, everyone is supportive of the decisions I have made in my life and has encouraged me and given me advice on ways to improve my mental health and well being.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bright Horizons?

Do not be anxious or worry too much about qualifications, as long as you are a genuine person with a passion and little or maybe some knowledge about safeguarding in Childcare (as an apprentice) then you will find the right placement for you
