My apprenticeship team supports me throughout my training by guiding my development, monitoring my progress, and making sure I’m building the skills and knowledge I need to succeed in my role. They act as mentors and provide structure to help me balance both practical work and learning.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my programme to a high extent. I like that it’s a good balance between practical experience and learning, because I’m not just studying—I’m actually applying what I learn in a real environment.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, I’ve developed a range of both new and existing skills through my apprenticeship.
I’ve improved my communication skills, especially when working with young children, by learning how to speak clearly, listen carefully, and adapt my approach depending on their needs. I’ve also developed my patience and understanding, which are really important in a nursery setting.

I feel supported both professionally and personally, as they understand that I’m still learning and are patient while helping me develop. Overall, their support has helped me grow and become more confident in my role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

They regularly check in with me through reviews and progress meetings, which helps me stay on track. I also get constructive feedback on my work, so I know how to improve and develop further.

I feel that my qualification supports my role very well. It gives me the knowledge and understanding behind what I’m doing day-to-day, so I’m not just completing task

Yes, there are opportunities to get involved in activities outside of the day-to-day role. For example, we sometimes take part in team events and social activities, which help build strong relationships within the staff team.

Would you recommend London Early Years Foundation to a friend?

Why?
As a male in early years, I think it’s especially important to have more positive male role models in childcare, and LEYF is a place that encourages that. I’ve felt welcomed and supported, and it’s helped me grow in confidence within the role.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to London Early Years Foundation?
If you’re applying to Leyef (I’m assuming it’s a program, role, or organisation tied to education or youth work), the best advice is to treat it less like “just an application” and more like showing who you are in action.
