Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role as a level 3 maintenance technician is to ensure all lines are constantly running with no issues. This includes attending breakdowns and conducting preventative maintenance which helps slim down the chances of a potential breakdown occurring. The role of a maintenance technician is to also ensure that all jobs are completed with as little downtime as possible to maximise parts and engines being made. It is also our responsibility to try and improve process to make them as efficient as possible.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have so far really enjoyed the programme. I have been able to learn many new skills and work towards achieving my level 3. There can sometimes be a lot of pressure especially for certain assignments but other than that the programme has been very good.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many different skills from both college and working at plant. Not only does this include practical skills but also skills which will help myself. This includes confidence, team work and social skills which have helped me inside and outside of work.

The programme itself is structured well with only a few issues with placements.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I believe I have received very good support from my employer and they are always willing to help and resolve any issues I have.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

James Watt College which is the training provider used for BMW Coleshill has been okay to some extent. They have helped teach me many useful skills and the subject which we learn at college have helped me a lot during plant. However, there is a few issues in relation to structure. Tutors are not always present and available and subjects can sometimes be mixed up. This has caused me to miss several PLC lessons and not complete my level 2 PLC qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Most practical qualifications such as bench, lathe and maintenance has helped me a lot towards my role as a maintenance technician. This also includes some theory subjects as well such as electrics. However, some subjects do not help me to perform better in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many extra-curricular activities at BMW such as charity events (teenage cancer trust) several fun runs and days out.

Yes
Why?
The benefits such as the car scheme, discount and pension from BMW Group is very good. Pay is also good and overall work is very good.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
Ensure you put a lot of effort into college as it helps towards receiving your qualifications.
