Summer Vacation Scheme Review

Over the 4 week period, I was given the opportunity to work on 3 different projects. This mostly consisted of attempting the work myself and receiving feedback, helping reconcile documents and listening to internal/external meetings. There was also opportunity for networking, with other interns or employees in other departments, and training/personal development.

Everyone in the team was keen and happy to talk about their experiences, and to help better understand the role. They were also very active in encouraging I reach out and providing contacts to learn about the businesses more widely and other departments/roles. People outside the team were also very happy to make time to chat and were very kind.

Learnt some skills specific to the service line and role, ie. how to write specific styles of documents. Also exposed to general business etiquette type skills, such as writing emails, setting up meetings etc.

Even from before the first day, everyone was very welcoming and kind. Socials/opportunities to network were set up and everyone was keen to catch up. The company culture was also presented as being very holistic and supportive, with people at all levels encouraging work-life balance, looking after oneself etc. Also no pressure to work overtime, and encouraged that if ever feeling like you were not thriving to reach out.

I genuinely enjoyed my time at Deloitte, much more than I had expected. This is largely due to everyone being so friendly and supportive, and it was clear that the emphasis was on my personal learning and development rather than getting menial work done.
