Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
As a Savers apprentice, I work 39 hours a week while gaining an hourly wage. The role includes providing excellent customer service, store standards e.g stocking shelves/facing up, stock management e.g deliveries, working on tills, opening and closing routines. I complete training and have one-to-one visits with my training provider.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

4/5
I enjoy the hands on nature of this role while earning at the same time as learning. The team creates a supportive environment and great teamwork helps the jobs get done effectively. I find the fast-paced physical work and the balance of study and shop floor roles quite demanding however the experience is great to have for my future career path. The long hours 5 days a week can get tiring at times as I work more than expected at my age.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
While I have been at Savers, I have learnt customer service techniques e.g. how to engage with customers to support with sales which provides a good balance of customer needs and the business's goals. I have learnt how to use new technology such as the HHT and tills. I am developing my confidence skills during this role which is also helping my communication when talking to new faces. I've also improved my ability to actively listen and speak clearly with diverse people. I am getting better at handling complaints in high pressure. Managing deadlines with training work and punctuality has helped my time management skills. Lastly, working as part of this team has helped my teamwork skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

4/5
It is balanced between on-the-job training and online training. I follow a routine of working through 2 modules and workbooks e.g customer service and technical. There are monthly check ins with my assessor. It feels organised with support but sometimes I do not get to use my full study hours for the week due to Savers Leicester being a busy store they always need another body on the shop floor to help out. This makes it feel like it is just working with learning squeezed in. However, I learn by doing which is good in this case.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

3/5
My store manager makes sure I am given time to do my training and any evidence I need to show my assessor.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
My training provider answers any questions I have, helps me understand anything I am unsure of related to the workbooks and prepares me for my end of year assessment

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

4/5
It helps me perform better by understanding why we do certain tasks e.g handing out baskets, handling complaints by using different communication techniques which is useful for selling SAS aswell.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

1/5
none I am aware of

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Savers Health and Beauty Ltd to a friend?

No

Why?

Can be physically demanding with long hours on your feet and dealing with large deliveries or queues as it is a fast paced environment. High pressure when being told to sell SAS and poor management can be stressful.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savers Health and Beauty Ltd?

Attitude matters as much as experience. Remain positive and be willing to learn. Be able to stay calm under pressure as it can affect the team. Communication and honesty is key in this workplace.
