Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work in retail investment management. We work with property funds/investors to acquire and dispose of commercial real estate assets. We assist with due diligence, marketing, negotiation of terms and communication with the opposing party.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
Savills' apprentice program is good but lacks variety.
Apprentices join 1 team at the start of the 5 years and are then expected to stay within that team for 5 years. I think apprentices should be allowed to rotate and try various teams within the business, just like graduates can, as it provides them with an opportunity to try different teams and get a broader experience. Graduates and apprentices are treated very differently and I think this disadvantages apprentices.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I work with a lot of intelligent and very experienced professionals who are able to teach me new skills, such as negotiating, report writing, mathematical / analytical skills etc.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
As previously mentioned, I believe the apprentice programme should offer a wider range of opportunities. Savills places strong importance on producing well rounded graduates, demonstrated through structured rotations and close monitoring to support their APC. This approach is understandable and clearly beneficial. However, apprentices are expected to remain in their initial team for the full five year programme, with limited opportunity to gain broader experience. This creates a perception that graduate development and experience are prioritised, while apprentices are offered fewer opportunities, despite having already been at Savills for 3 years at the point where they start their APC.
I do however believe Savills have a great support system and offer a lot of help in terms of CPD and APC training. If Apprentices were allowed to rotate, even just once or twice within the 5 years, my score would no doubt be a 5/5.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There is a lot of support offered at Savills. We have regular APC training as well as CPD.
I feel supported and that Savills is a great place to do my APC
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
A lot. Weekly CPD and quarterly APC training.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think there could be some improvements at the University of Westminster in terms of lecture/seminar quality. But their valuations and property business modules have been very helpful and have provided knowledge that I have been able to transfer to my work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, Savills offer a lot of extra curricular activities and group.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I struggled with this as I would advise anyone who is thinking of joining a commercial real estate pathway to join a company that offers rotations, in order to get a well-rounded experience, so in that sense my answer would be a no.
However, Savills offer such strong APC and CPD support that I think it may outweigh the negative. However, if Savills could figure out a way to allow apprentices to rotate, it would no doubt be the best apprentice scheme in the UK for property!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills?
Be yourself.
Be well read on Savills, don't just know key stats from the website.
Stand out from the crowd, as being memorable is key on a day where many people are interviewing for the same role as you.
