Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Assistant operations engineer role entails the day to day running of teams on civil engineering projects such as road repair, drainage repair & footpath/bridge upgrades as a contractor.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The work that I manage and take forward is very rewarding & challenging always throwing some new engineering difficulty's.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Bit of both really, I have worked in construction as a ground worker for over 25 years and came into it with very little education, I have gained an education & qualification's thanks to the apprenticeship & I am more analytical in the way that I work & manage team members, I now better understand the importance of the engineering design side of things.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My program is ever evolving and is a flexible varied one & cannot be quantified in time or days, best guess scenario really, but that's what I like about it.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

As a large employer the support is already in place, I can pick up the phone or M/S Teams for support anytime I need.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The support is there if required and is very good & helpful.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification I have gained has helped me better understand all aspects of my job role and civil engineering including the processed and procedures in general.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I recently attended the convention of the North that was held in Preston, The event brought together influential mayors, council leaders, business executives, and academics to discuss pressing issues and opportunities facing the North. Key topics included skills, innovation, and collaborative efforts to drive economic growth, all aimed at devolution, economic growth & health and wellbeing.

Why?
Both myself and my wife works for Lancashire, its a very rewarding career, just by being able to live, work and hopefully do a good job in our respective fields give us the reason and drive to strive for better for the people of Lancashire that we serve.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lancashire County Council?
If you truly believe that you can make a difference no matter how large or small & are a supportive helpful, respectful, honest confidant person with the drive to go that extra mile in all that you do, I would definitely say that the Council is for you.
