Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Day to day, I am with a fully skilled technician shadowing and carrying out work myself to maintain and repair the machinery in our plant.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
On site I love it, being hands on stuck in and learning loads. However the study side of the apprenticeship is a challenge from the college we received less than what we felt was necessary

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt so many new skills both mechanical but also in my approach to situations and how to conduct myself in a professional environment

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
On site the structure is ok, we have a plan of which section of the factory we will work in and for how long, but we do not always stick to it as we can be moved around. The structure around the college side is sub par
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
On site team for the business are brilliant all really want us to succeed
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
The training provider is very poor, they struggle to communicate any basic facts to us, any study needs to be done yourself as unlikely you’ll receive much teaching, exam dates and assignment dates change
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I feel a lot of the qualification could be very useful to my job role, understanding the theory and practice in practical scenarios before being on site. However, the standard or study the provider sets is sub par and does not allow for the baseline experience you would want out of it to prepare for the career
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Some but you never know how to join, they are very private

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Overall as a place to work I love it, just like anywhere there is ways it could be better, there are ways it can be worse. Overall you get a lot of benefits, high standard equipment to use and learn on, and mountains of experience
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
Try your best, be yourself. Grades are not what everyone looks for. If you are applying for a maintenance position especially, it matters more about how you think than how smart you are, if you do not have a mindset for maintenance I.e. wanting to understand what is happening when a movement is carried out, or how something works. Then it is harder to teach.
