Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Comprehensive teaching for a variety of engineering principles. Learning about all the fundamentals that encompass becoming an engineer. This includes practical skills such as milling, lathing, welding, electronics and electrical wiring, PLCs, fluid power, business.
Also studying a BTEC where I am taught about health and safety, engineering drawings, maths for engineers, communications for engineers.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The program is very enjoyable. I have learnt a lot since the start of the program. My skills have developed a lot and I look forward to learning more.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt how to use a lathe machine and milling machine. I have also learnt how to solder and wire electronic circuits and electrical installations. I have learnt how to communicate effectively, and how to use maths in an engineering context.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The program is well structured and organised. Information is clear, available and easily accessible.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is always available for support and they are very approachable and friendly. They always offer their support and remind our cohort that we can come to them for anything, work related or otherwise.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The support is very good with most tutors, however there are a few tutors which are not very approachable. These tutors don't make me feel like I can ask for help because they get frustrated with having to explain something again, even if I did listen the first time.
I also think that better support could be given with the mathematics modules. Due to the entry requirements for this role not needing the applicant to have A-level maths, there is a discrepancy with assumed knowledge. Some of my peers have studied A-level maths, but I didn't and haven't studied maths for a long time. I wasn't given the best support with this, and wasn't given extra time to help me fully understand all the concepts. The teacher would assume we would know things which I wasn't taught in school.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification helps me perform better in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
At the start of the year, my employer organised a trip to Skern. This was a great experience and helped my cohort get to know each other. It made the start of our employment much easier as we was already comfortable with each other.
Now that we have started the year, there isnt many opportunities presented to participate in extra-curricular activities. It would be nice if our employer introduced opportunities like this.
