Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I love my job at plant and fully enjoy and take on the projects I am given, I love being involved in the day to day business that goes on in my different placements. I have been in TecSa and calibration for a mass amount of my time at plant, and enjoy what I am given, with the independence and projects they give me, as they trust me, it feels good.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy going around my different placements, and learning all of their roles

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Absolutely, during my 9 months at plant I have been able to perfect and learn many many skills, the main one being CAD, which I have done before, but through projects, I have been able to develop this massively

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

At plant, it is well structured enough so I have a clear set out plan which I am able to follow.
However, at college, the structure of the work is extremely poor and at times unbearable. We are still missing work from September 2024, which is yet to be rearranged, despite continuous reassurance from the college we will be able to complete this work soon, which has been told to us from around January 2025. Now, April 2026, we are still left in the lurch as to when we will get any of this work done, as I don't wish for this work to be left to run over till the 3rd year of my apprenticeship.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I never really ask for support from the employers, but I know its there if needed.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I don't believe the college's support is adept enough, and I don't appreciate some of the attitude shown to us by some of the tutors at the college. At times, this treatment can be detrimental to our learning, as the mutual respect for the tutors can't be there at times, treating apprentices like children, with complete disrespect. Approaching the tutors with queries and concerns isn't a viable option, as the layer of trust has never been there from the beginning, with complete disassociation between senior members of staff and apprentices.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

A lot of the work I learn at college, isn't really applicable to my job role as a Metrology/Calibration apprentice, although it is interesting to learn certain subjects, as it may come in handy in the future with potential career changes. Knowledge is always transferrable

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I have done a few school events, and I am aware of football teams and charity events, which I don't attend
