Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I worked within logistics quality, supporting the flow of parts and making sure everything met the correct standards in the production process. My role involved checking components, helping identify any issues, and making sure the right parts were in the right place at the right time.
Day to day, I carried out quality checks, supported investigations into errors, and worked with the team to reduce issues like incorrect parts being fitted. It was a mix of hands-on work and problem solving, helping improve efficiency and maintain quality across the line.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme to a large extent. I like that it gives me a mix of hands-on practical work and problem solving, especially within logistics quality. It’s rewarding to see how my work helps improve processes and reduce issues on the line.
I also enjoy the learning side, as it helps me understand the theory behind what I’m doing at work. While some tasks can be challenging, overall I find the programme interesting and it’s helping me develop useful skills for my future career in engineering.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have developed both new and existing skills during my programme. I’ve improved my attention to detail and problem-solving through quality checks and supporting issue investigations in logistics.
I’ve also strengthened my communication, teamwork, and digital skills by working with colleagues and using systems to record data and track parts. Overall, the programme has helped me become more confident in a practical engineering environment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I can only speak for my own experience, but my programme is well organised overall. My line manager is really supportive and has helped me create and adapt my placement plan based on what I want to learn and develop. This has made the experience more structured and focused on my personal development goals.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
My employer is also the apprentice manager, so I don’t see them very often day to day. However, the support I receive is good, and if I need anything it’s easy to get in contact with them. They are approachable and responsive when I have questions or need guidance.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
The support from my training provider is quite limited at times. While guidance is available when needed, delivery of teaching can be inconsistent, which means I often have to take more responsibility for my own learning and understanding of the material. As a result, I tend to rely on my workplace experience and additional self-study to stay on track with my qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The content of my qualification is relevant to my role and links well to the work I do in logistics quality. However, the delivery from my training provider is not always effective, so I often find that I have to take responsibility for learning the material myself. Despite this, the topics do support my understanding of the job and help me apply better practices in the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, there are some extra-curricular opportunities to get involved in at work. I’ve taken part in school visits for National Apprenticeship events, which involved promoting apprenticeships and speaking to students about my experience. I’m also part of the apprentice newsletter team at Hams Hall, where we help share updates and highlight apprentice activities across the site. These opportunities have helped me build confidence and improve my communication and teamwork skills.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend BMW Group to a friend because it offers a great apprenticeship experience with strong hands-on learning and real responsibility. You get the opportunity to develop both practical and technical skills in a professional engineering environment.
There’s also good support from colleagues and line managers, and opportunities to get involved in wider activities like apprentice projects and events. Overall, it’s a good place to learn, grow, and build a strong foundation for a career in engineering.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
My advice would be to show a genuine interest in engineering and be willing to learn. BMW Group looks for people who are motivated, reliable, and open to developing new skills.
It’s also important to be confident in yourself during the application process and be ready to talk about any practical experience, teamwork, or problem-solving situations you’ve had. Once you’re in the role, take every opportunity to get involved and ask questions, as you’ll learn a lot on the job.
