Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a maintenance apprentice it is my role to learn as much as I can about the area I am placed.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the programme for the job role and what i get up to and the paperwork is manageable but will on occassion do things at home. I also do a HNC alongside my apprenticeship in years 3 and 4 which has added a lot to the workload.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I get stuck in and work on press lines, blanking lines, robots, electrical work and PLC systems so there is a lot of complex systems to work on and i am learning a lot. I work on a lot of mechanical and electrical equipment as well as heavy machinery like lathes and mills. I have also learned to operate B1 and B2 forklifts and gantry cranes.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is structured into placement blocks where we spend 3 months in each area.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I receive good support from my training advisor and placement managers.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I receive a good bit of support and i am largely left to my own devices to manage my workload but we are allowed time at work to get through our paperwork which means we do not need to do so much at home.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend the apprenticeship because it is a good business to work for with a lot of benefits and opportunities to visit plants across the country and go to other plants in other countries.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
Be honest throughout the application process, your previous skills do not matter lots because you will be upskilled during your apprenticeship. Show an interest in the industry and type of work you will be conducting and show an interest in wanting to learn and expand your skillset.
