Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I attended meetings with System Engineers and managers to develop demonstrations and new tools that could be used by SE's to make daily working easier. I also attended events and talks hosted by the company to gain deeper insight into the products and solutions on offer, and could also use inhouse training resources to further my understanding and education
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes. I was regularly asked to produce documentation and pieces of work that were to be used for a long time. We also had the opportunity to aid in the RFx process on multiple occasions and work along side the lead SE to find solutions to best suit the customers need

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have gained a deeper and stronger understanding of not only the networking basics, but I also developed a more grounded knowledge of some of the cutting edge Cyber Security skills deployed in the world to stop attacks. I also got great exposure a wide range of skills, including API usage, some programming elements, and documentation formatting

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
There has been an overwhelming amount of support from every member of the team I have interacted with. There seemed to be an amazing culture that felt like it didn't matter who you were within the company, if you had a question someone would do their best to answer it and if they couldn't they would put you in touch with someone who could.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture at work was incredible. People were able to be friendly and approachable at all times whilst also juggling their demanding workload. I think this came down to a company wide approach that life still comes first, and if you need time off at a moments notice or need a bit of time to attend to household issues this was no issue at all

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
This year has taught me much about the industry and job whilst keeping it in a fun and engaging manner. Every step of the way we had help and assistance where needed but independence to learn and grow as individuals. I've had so much fun learning about the different technologies and how the business runs and I've been able to communicate with many others in the company

If you come with an ability to work well with others and have a desire to grow your Networking and Cyber Security knowledge, then you will have the most amazing time at Fortinet and fit in perfectly. The team around you will always be available to help and you'll be asked to complete important work that will be useful for a long time, leaving you feeling highly valued and appreciated.
